Construction Timeline

We are on schedule to deliver a programme that ensures that the Athletes’ Village and the legacy of the Games is a success.

The story so far:

  • June 2009 City Legacy selected as Preferred Bidder
  • February 2010 Planning Application Submitted
  • September 2010 Planning Application Approved
  • June 2011 Construction starts at Athletes Village
To explore the timeline below, move your cursor over an event to learn about the different stages on the City Legacy timeline.

Phase 1 – Pre Games

The construction of Athletes’ Village will start in October 2010, with handover to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee scheduled for December 2013.  The Commonwealth Games will take place in July 2014 and during the Games, the Athletes’ Village will provide accommodation for the thousands of athletes and officials.

Phase 2 – Post Games

After the Games, the Athletes’ Village will transform into a lively residential community, all within a short train or bus journey to the centre of Glasgow. Following a successful stage 1 we will also start the development of a further 765 additional homes on this riverside site.

This is a huge project. And while we are very excited about Glasgow’s successful Commonwealth Games, we are focussed in creating a real legacy which will ultimately be one of the most significant housing-based regeneration schemes in the UK.
