The development of the Athletes’ Village will bring significant community benefits to the city by generating employment and training opportunities and creating opportunities for small to medium sized enterprises and social enterprises.

One example of this is the number of new jobs that will be created as part of an overall direct workforce of 620.  93 new jobs will be created and 60 of these will be apprentices.  The partnering agreements with sub-contractors and suppliers will see 36 new jobs being created and 24 of these will be apprentices.  The indirect workforce will be around 200.

Businesses will benefit from the enhanced economic opportunities the Games will bring.  Workers will benefit from new jobs and practical measures such as the Glasgow Living Wage, the Council policy that gives a fair pay to low earners. Communities will benefit from rules that will ensure that businesses involved in the Games put something back into the local community.

In our commitment to providing real community benefits in the local area, we will:

  • exceed the target for new entrant employees over the life time of the project
  • create approximately 60 new apprenticeships with an additional 24 from sub-contractors
  • offer approximately 48 work placements each year
  • focus sub contracting opportunities on local, small & medium sized enterprises, and social enterprises.

We really want you to get involved in shaping the project the way you want to see the Athletes’ Village develop.  We’ve already consulted widely with local people, and this work with communities will continue as we build the Athletes’ Village.

Over the next few years, we'll be out and about in the local area and coming to meet with you.  We’ll also be organising events and giving you information about what's happening with the development.

The website already contains a lot of information about what we have planned for the Athletes’ Village site.  Over the next few years, it will keep you up to date on how the building work is progressing, as well as practical things like road closures.
