The Athletes’ Village is in Dalmarnock, in the heart of Glasgow’s East End. Just 3 miles from the city centre, it takes only 5-10 minutes to reach the city by car or bus.
The area will be well served with transport links. A new above ground railway station is being built at Dalmarnock and will be completed in time for the Games in 2014. This is on the Argyle line which runs directly into the city centre in just a few minutes. In addition, the M74 extension will run nearby when complete in 2011.
Located north of the River Clyde, the area is very close to Parkhead, home to Celtic FC’s football stadium. Bridgeton and Rutherglen both with good shopping amenities are also nearby. A large 24 hour Tesco is located less than a mile away.
The 96 acre riverside site will include carefully located and supervised play spaces. The homes will be low rise, with many energy efficient features resulting in significantly reduced energy bills and a minimum 60% carbon emission reduction.
